This is the last week of term 3 before two weeks school holidays. First day back is Monday 16th October. Thank you for all of the support you have given this term with your child’s learning. This week we will be finishing off portfolio-blog work, doing a little testing and completing of assessments. We are well ahead with this already so should be able to do some extra fun and interesting activities this week.

Holiday reading logs have been given to children. I have sourced some summer themed prizes: boogie boards, skim boards, snorkel and flippers as well as all the other stuff and they are now on display in the hall foyer. Please encourage your children to start the logs as soon as they get them. Children are able to take journals and class library books home if they ask. There is some fantastic stuff going on at the City Library over the holidays too:

There will be a celebration in the staffroom on Thursday at 9:45am for several children nominated from each classroom, who have done particularly well this term. Nominated children will be notified early in the week.

Pasifika practice in the hall 11am on Friday.

Reminder:
Forms for parent input into 2018 class placements were issued the week before last to each student. Parents  - please note these forms need to be returned by Friday 29 September if you wish us to consider your input. The forms need to be returned to the big blue postal box in the student foyer.

Thanks to those parents who have already returned the form for their child/ren.
If you have mislaid or not seen the form you can collect a copy from the School Office or go to this link

Touch Rugby starts this week for those students signed up, so check practice times. Mrs Hall’s Weka's team will be training on Tuesday at 12:30.

FYI:
Within an area that a marae stands on, you are going to have a set of buildings. The main buildings are the whare tipuna, the ancestral house, the wharekai, or the dining room, and those are the key buildings. Apart from those buildings there will be an ablutions area, there will be cooking facilities, there will be other buildings that may or may not exist on all marae. Nearby there may be a whare karakia, a church. There may also be other buildings like whare kaumātua, kaumātua flats. There could even be a kōhanga reo, so beyond that also then there might be homes. Some marae may have a memorial, a memorial to soldiers, a memorial to a particular tipuna and, you know, there are some marae also that may have prominent tipuna buried on that marae and, you know, in a way it just helps I suppose consolidate the collective or the whānau's responsibilities to that marae. Depending on the purpose for gathering, the flag will be raised. Again it indicates to a community that something is happening at the marae and it’s generally up for the duration of that gathering or that hui. For tangihanga, where I come from (and probably in most areas as well) the flag will be raised to the top of the flag mast, but once the corpse or the tūpāpaku arrives on the marae then it will come down to half mast. Then again it indicates to people going past there is a tangihanga in progress. So all of those things, whilst it may not be known, they are all signs that communicate certain things to people who are aware of that.

All welcome..our new families will be welcomed at this Mass also.

QUICK FACTS ABOUT THE NATIVITY OF MARY

Ruma Weta recently had maths observations by an independent advisor. She was impressed with how we rotate groups and what resources we are using in numeracy time. We use a range of text book, digital, board games, wild card activities, and maths whizz and also two teachers working with groups at any one time.

Great work..the results of our students in Maths has been enormous this year so far!!
