The Smart family have donated a voucher for a one night stay at the Rotovegas Motel for a lucky Dad. To enter the Fathers’ Day Competition the children have to write, “What is fab bout my Dad”. Entries close Thursday after school.

It was awesome to have our school, as a school welcome the NZ Marist team on Friday. The children really put their heart and soul into the welcome and we were lucky to have our Kaumatua with us too. Rangi does a great job. Wasn’t it fun, and the players said the day at St Mary’s was awesome. Thank you Mrs Dunkley for your meticulous organisation. Thanks also to Dorothy and our awesome PTA who organised the tasty lunch for the team.

Have a great week!

The children really enjoyed the chalk drawing competition that took place last week for a whole school Golden Time activity. There were a lot of great ideas for designs.

Weekly Notices, week 5, term 3, 2017

Room 16, Weekly Notices, Term 3, Week 5 (21st - 25th August 2017)

We have had another incident this past week of a few children not using their chromebooks and Google Apps accounts appropriately, for learning purposes only. Please assist teacher by encouraging your child to access learning material only with their school login. If parents give permission for children to do different things at home then you must create a separate home account for them with a different email address and login. They are not permitted to use this home login at school at any time.

Go for it is on again this Wednesday. Room 16 enjoyed their double session last week. Children to bring PE gear if they are able.

Kapa Haka is on this week on Thursday at 2pm for all participating students. No new children at this time of the year please.

On Friday at 11.30am the NZ Marist Colts are visiting us at school The team is brought together every 2-3 years and usually it is made up of a player from each of the Marist Clubs in NZ and there are a lot of Marist clubs in NZ. The thing I like about Marist Club, besides having a Catholic flavour, is that players can move to different parts of NZ and still play for a Marist Club. All the university towns in NZ have a Marist Club.

Pasifika practice 11am in the hall on Friday

ALiM Maths problem of the week

ALiM Maths Group problem of the week for parents and children.

Have a go at this mastermind game - follow this link. It is a mastermind type game that gets you thinking about patterns and remembering what you have already guessed.
The children in the ALiM group seem to be really enjoying their extra 15 minutes of maths a day. They have all made great strides in a very short space of time and I have had to increase the difficulty of some teaching to allow for this.

Wednesday 16 August 2017

Ruma Weta collaborative classroom space

Children in Ruma Weta choose to work in different places around the room at different times. Many children are now very independent and able to complete a variety of tasks by themselves.

Monday 14 August 2017

Lunchtime Eating

We have decided to give the children a little bit more scope to sit where they want in the classroom to eat at morning tea and lunchtime. The understanding is that they are careful about the rubbish and crumbs they leave behind so we can continue to give them this privilege. We were finding they were leaving lots of mess on the tarpaulins, perhaps because they were not being careful.

Sunday 13 August 2017

Weekly Notices, Week 4, Term 3, 2017

I hope room 16 children enjoy their week 4 learning.

Could parents please remind children about the importance of not actively playing in our Ruma Weta - rooms 16 & 17 classrooms. Most children are behaving appropriately. Despite repeated warnings some children are still insisting on running, throwing and bouncing balls and playing with furniture around the classroom. The classroom is for learning or playing calm games, all active play needs to be outside. We have a multitude of expensive electronic equipment in the classroom and sooner or later there will be an expensive 'accident'.

If your child does not currently have a pair of headphones that work could you please purchase one for them. They are essential for a quiet and concentrated working environment especially when using maths whizz or lexia programmes. Cheap pairs are available for sale at the office.

What a great day on Friday with celebrating Mary Mackillop-her life and her work.

The students all looked excited and interested.

Please practice the X tables and spelling on the Homework Label.

This week is Maths Week so we will be looking at lots of extra activities to do with Maths this week.
