SCIENCE

We were looking again at water quality for science and the different ways a good scientist could test any waterway for the quality of its water and signs of pollution. We are looking at the local Utuhina Stream. The first test was a clarity test using a clarity tube. We then sifted through net samples taken by Mr Bach from the stream to look for macro invertebrates (water bugs). We found some crayfish (koura) which is a good sign.

Thank you.

Our class prayer book is very popular..the students are enjoying the opportunity to take it home. We have had some great additions in the book. Thank you again for your involvement with this initiative.

Soon Mr Bach and Mrs Hall will send out a parent survey on the collaborative classroom. Please do respond to the on-line survey. It helps us with looking at our next steps and what parents see as the pros and cons of this teaching style.

There will be no sausage sizzle this Friday 19th or next Friday 26th due to the JPC production and crosscountry being on these two days.

Mrs Hall will be away for most of the week. Whaia Eliana will replace her in Room 17.
We heard on Saturday that Mrs Bernie Hall’s Mum passed away. Very sad, particularly that she passed away so close to Mother’s Day. Our kind thoughts and prayers are with you Mrs Hall and your family. I know you will have a lot to do with funeral arrangements and it will be an excellent send off for her.

It is Primary Science Week this week from the 15-19 May. We are already doing a lot of science in Ruma Weta, but we may do some special activities this week.

On Friday 19th May our Seniors and Middles have been invited to JPC’s production “Into the Woods”. The show starts at 11.00am and we will be walking down and back. We will need a couple of adult volunteers per class to help with this. We already have two volunteers in Ruma Weta. The cost of the show for children and adults will be covered by the school.

We will have our reading log draw for the last holiday reading programme at singing on Wednesday morning.

Wet day toys during a wet term

Ruma Weta bought a number of technology style construction kits at the end of last year using our class budget. These have come in handy and been very popular with the children on the many wet lunchtimes we had towards the end of last term. Below some of our boys try to build as high as they can.

Below is also a photo from our 'washing of the feet' liturgy at the end of term one.
